Why Does the Church Honour the Saints?

The church honours the saints because of their importance in the lives of the faithful. She holds them up as role models to inspire and encourage believers to lead holy lives, by living the Christian way of life and also become saints. She invites her members to turn to the saints in their problems and difficulties, and ask them to intercede with God on their behalf. The saints are important for the whole church as they bear witness to her holiness. They help her to face severe challenges coming from within her own ranks or from outside forces. Hence the church has good reason to celebrate their lives, by having special feast days to remember and venerate them.
